Today, 1 in 44 kids is diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). ASD is a developmental disability that can cause social, communication and behavioral challenges. People with ASD may communicate, interact, behave and learn in ways that are different from other people. Transitions and/or breaks in routine can be stressful for people with ASD in the best of times. Over the past two years, social distancing and mask protocols, school closures, changes in receiving needed services, and many other things, have been extra challenging. Everyone can be a hero in some way to people with special needs.
