2023 Lake Minnetonka Triathlon on Saturday, June 18th!
The Lake Minnetonka Triathlon is a sprint triathlon. The Excelsior Commons, also known as The Commons, is the central hub of the race. Race day packet pick-up, body markings, the mandatory pre-race meeting, transition area, finish line, awards ceremony, food & water tables, and vendors will all be located here.
REGISTRATION OPTIONS
Individual Triathlon: Within the individual division, you will be prompted to select one of the following options:
Age Group: This is the most common selection. You will compete against other racers of the same gender and age group.
Clydesdale/Athena: You may opt into this division if you are a man weighing 220+ pounds (Clydesdale) or a woman weighing 165+ pounds (Athena). Even if you meet the weight criteria, that does not mean you have to race in the Clydesdale/Athena division; you may still choose to race in whichever division you would like.
Elite: You should only opt into the Elite division if you are an experienced triathlete that generally finishes in the top 3-5% of all racers.
Relay Team: A Relay Team is made up of 2-3 athletes that compete as a team. Each person on the team does at least one leg of the race. Pricing is for a team; however, each person must register separately.
Aquabike: The Lake Minnetonka Triathlon is proud to have hosted the first Aquabike event in the state of Minnesota. The Aquabike division is designed for athletes who only want to do the swim and bike portions. After finishing the bike, Aquabike participants will return their bike to the Transition Area and then run approximately 100 meters to complete the race at the official finish line.
*Family Team: A Family Team is made up of two athletes that race individually in their respective divisions, then have their times combined for a total Family Team time. There is no extra cost to also compete as a Family Team, but both participants must select that they would like to participate as a Family Team when registering.
SWIM: The triathlon begins from the Excelsior Public Beach. This unique 1/2-mile swim is along the shore of Lake Minnetonka's Excelsior Bay. Spectators can watch the entire swim from the hillside. There are large red buoys in the water to indicate the course; the buoys should always be on your right side. The swim course goes out, hang a right at the first buoy, hang another right, and you're headed towards shore.
BIKE: *THE BIKE ROUTE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE FOR 2023 - STAY TUNED*
RUN: The run is 3.1-miles (5k distance) along the shores of Lake Minnetonka on sidewalks and the light rail trail. The light rail trail is very flat and made of hard pack clay. The turn around is at Sleepy Hollow Rd.
